Dazhän tágà, dän k’è Nakhų̄ Chù kùye. Män shäw ts’än kedį̀lin, eyet män Nakhų̄ Mǟn kùye. Män tatay yū dän kwädą̄y ch’äw khų̄ yè nänàkè kwä̀ch’e nà. Älǖr k’è dazhän tágà, T’ahîni kùye. Älǖr k’è gyǘ chù kèni.

English

The river is called Nakhų̄ Chù ‘Rafting Across River’ because it runs out of Nakhų̄ Mǟn ‘Rafting Across Lake’ (Kusawa Lake).

Did you know?

A sketch of the Tahk-heena River appears on a map from the U.S. Coast Survey Report for 1867 (Dawson 161). Dawson notes that the name would be better spelled Ta-hê-nê (fn, p. 160). The Tlingit name for the river is in fact T’ahîni (king salmon river).
